Pomorie

The town of Pomorie is located on a peninsula jutting into five kilometers out to the sea. The peninsula is located 18 kilometers northeast of Burgas and 408 km east of Sofia. In the V century BC a Messembria colony of the metropolis was founded. The city was named Anhialo.

After the liberation from the Turkish slavery the town quickly stood back on its feet and had big importance in the Bourgas Bay. In 1906, a fire broke out in the city and destroyed it almost completely. It is known as a center of production of salt, fruit and vegetables, as a town with traditions in the wine business and in the production of canned food. Now its fishing is largely determined by tourism, there is a healing mud treatment center. The lake with healing mud found in the III - IV centuries BC, later called by Anna Comnena (Byzantine writer) "Holy Lake". After the unique healing properties of mud have been proven in 1902 the first mud baths ware built here. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, sciatica, rheumatism, sciatica, lumbago, hernia, and others are treated here.

Sights: The old church of the Transfiguration of Christ (XVII - XIX century with a valuable iconostasis and icons) and the Assumption of the Virgin (XIX century). There is Pomorie Monastery St. George with preserved stone relief of St. George.

Transport: Regular urban transport connects Bourgas and Pomorie. There are also ordinary taxis and mini-buses. By agreement, you can use the private water transport to Bourgas and Nessebar.
